The Indian Government has announced a ban on 118 Chinese apps in the previous week. PUBG Mobile, one of the most prevalent games also included in the list of banned Chinese apps. PUBG Mobile has been designed and developed by South Korea’s PUBG Corporation. It is the parent firm of PUBG Mobile game. Despite the official announcement about the PUBG Mobile ban in India, the company is hoping for a comeback. The company said that Tencent Games will no more handle its franchise in India.
On Monday, the company said in an official statement that it has witnessed immense support from its subscriber base in the nation. The Indian Government has decided to ban 118 mobile apps to safeguard the interests of millions of Indian mobile and internet users. Considering the security concerns of the users, the Government has banned these apps. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology [MeitY] issued an official notification informing the same. It said that the apps were engaged in activities ‘prejudicial to Sovereignty and Integrity of India, Defence of India, Security of State and Public Order.’
PUBG Corporation is the developer of PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS [PUBG] battle royale video game that’s compatible with multiple platforms. The company recently issued an official statement in its blog post saying that it will no more authorize the PUBG Mobile franchise to Tencent Games in India. As per the company’s decision, the South Korean firm might take the complete charge of all its subsidiaries instead of handing it to Tencent Games in India.
With this move, the company hinted that the PUBG game will soon make its comeback in the country. The official statement reads, ‘PUBG Corporation fully understands and respects the measures taken by the government as the privacy and security of player data is a top priority for the company. It hopes to work hand-in-hand with the Indian government to find a solution that will allow gamers to once again drop into the battlegrounds while being fully compliant with Indian laws and regulations.’
The statement further reads, ‘In light of recent developments, PUBG Corporation has decided to no longer authorize the PUBG MOBILE franchise to Tencent Games in India. Moving forward, PUBG Corporation will take on all publishing responsibilities within the country. As the company explores ways to provide its own PUBG experience for India in the near future, it is committed to doing so by sustaining a localized and healthy gameplay environment for its fans.’
Will PUBG Make its Comeback to India?
As of now, there is no official announcement regarding the comeback of the PUBG Mobile game in India. However, this move of the company will clear the way for the franchise. Once the association of Tencent Games with PUBG Mobiel and the light version of the game ends, the PUBG Corporation might take its case to the Indian Government. Despite the ban on the PUBG Mobile app for mobile users in India, this game is still available for gamers to play on their computers and other desktop devices. The reason is that PUBG mobile is the mobile version of the PUBG game.
Originally, the PUBG Mobile app was rolled out in China to ease the entry of the PUBG game. The reason is that the game was barred in that country. Later, this game was launched in China after Tencent Games acquired a 1.5 percent stake in Bluehole Studio. PUBG Corporation is a subsidiary firm of Bluehole Games, the South Korean conglomerate that designed and developed PUBG. The Government has banned only this version of the game as it has some sort of association with China. Still, the PC version of the PUBG game is available in India.
The users who have already installed the game on their devices can however play it without any problem. The latest updates of the game are not available for the subscribers in India. On the whole, the Indian Government has banned 224 Chinese apps including TikTok, PUBG, and others in different stages.
