Apple has geared up to manufacture its product’s components in India. Thee popular component manufacturers such as Tata Electronics, Pegatron and Luxshare have got permission to commence manufacturing the Apple products’ components in Tamil Nadu, India. As of now, iPhones are only assembled in India. As per the latest news, the manufacturing of these components will be commenced soon in India.
Tamil Nadu is a worthy state that has been hosting copious manufacturing facilities for Salcomp and Foxconn. The state cabinet of Tamil Nadu has approved about 34 industrial projects in the state that include investments of about Rs. 52257 crore. Some of the projects include Apple suppliers’ investments such as Foxconn, Tata Electronics, Pegatron Corporation, Luxshare, Taiwan, and others.
By setting up a lot of manufacturing and production companies in India, ultimately results in more job opportunities for more than 94000 people in Tamil Nadu. On Friday, the state cabinet approved a new industrial policy for Tamil Nadu. This policy will be issued soon in February 2021. Pegatron Corporation has planned to invest about Rs. 1100 crore in the initial phase. This leads to the generation of employment opportunities for more than 14000 people in the state.
Tata Electronics is likely to invest about Rs. 5763 crore in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. This way, it generates more job opportunities for 18250 people. Luxshare is planning to invest around Rs. 745 crore in the state that generates 4000 jobs for the people in the state. Luxshare, the Taiwanese firm manufactures and supplies wearables and other electronic components for Apple. The manufacturing unit of Motorola situated in Sriperumbudur location near Chennai will be taken over by Luxshare.
It’s a great initiative and accomplishment for the country. As Apple manufactures a lot of products in India, they can be further exported to different countries. It’s a way productive for the country in terms of exports. If Apple manufactures its products in India, we may expect some lowering of its product prices. However, it is not yet decided.
Still, it seems to be economic development for India. Meanwhile, some other prevalent smartphone manufacturers like Samsung are planning to manufacture their products in India. The South Korean smartphone firm is planning to shift its manufacturing plant from China to India soon. As of now, Samsung has its largest smartphone manufacturing unit in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
