Jio Working on a 5G Smartphone that may Cost Less Than Rs 5000

Reliance Jio, the leading telecom operator in India has geared up to launch 5G smartphones at an affordable cost of Rs. 5000. Further, the company will progressively diminish the price to Rs. 2500 to Rs. 3000 per unit when it expands the operation. One of the officials at the company said, ‘Jio wants to bring the device for less than Rs 5,000. When we scale up the sales, it can be priced in the range of Rs 2,500-3,000.’

According to the latest report, Reliance Jio will target about 20 to 30 crore mobile phone users who use the 2G connection in the current era. As of now, 5G smartphones are available in India at a price range starting from Rs. 27000. Still, the company hasn’t confirmed whether this smartphone will run on the Android operating system or not. There are maximum chances that this smartphone will run on Android OS.

Reliance Jio had previously made 4G smartphones running on KaiOS. However, they were touted as smart feature phones rather than complete smartphones. If this smartphone is going to be a smartphone, it is nearly certain that this will run on Android OS rather than accessing the full Android. Reliance Jio may access the Lite version of the Google OS.

During 43rd Annual General Meeting, Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing director Mukesh Ambani claimed to make India ‘2G mukt’ [Free of 2G connections]. The company focused on the necessity to accelerate the migration of 350 million Indians to an inexpensive smartphone. Google has invested a huge amount of Rs. 33737 crore for 7.7 percent stake in Jio platforms, announced Mukesh Ambani.

He further stated that Reliance Jio will collaborate with the US tech behemoth to build an Android-based smartphone operating system. The firm is also working on its 5G network equipment and has asked the Department of Telecom to assign its spectrum for testing before exporting these products. The Indian Government is yet to pay attention to the request of Reliance Jio. As of now, India doesn’t have 5G services. The Government hasn’t even allocated spectrum to telecom operators for running field trials targeted at endorsing the local ecosystem for next-generation technology.
